Toyota Hilux Dakar Edition Now Available
Toyota has introduced a Dakar Edition of its popular pickup, the Hilux. The new model bears only a few cosmetic changes to keep the spirits of Dakar rally enthusiasts high. It is now listed on Toyota South Africa official website.
The Hilux Dakar Edition gets a new trapezoidal front grille and a redesigned bumper. This new grille is somewhat similar to what we’ve seen on the Land Cruiser 200. Toyota has also given a gloss black treatment to the ORVMs and door handles of the Dakar Edition.
To give the final touch up, Toyota has also pasted Dakar logos at the bottom of the front doors. That’s about it. The rest of the vehicle remains exactly the same as a normal Hilux.
To spice things a bit, there is a new Inferno Orange color scheme. Other color options include Graphite Grey Metallic, Chromium Silver and Glacier White.
The interior of the Toyota Hilux Dakar Edition is a bit different from that of the usual. Instead of the boring cloth seats, we’ve got partial leather trims. There’s also a standard sat-nav to help you get out from a desert when you’re lost rallying around. We also see mild touches of gloss black here and there. As far as the list of features is concerned, the Hilux Dakar Edition is sharing that of the top-end Raider variant of the normal Hilux.
If we talk about the engines, we get a 2.8-liter GD-6 turbocharged diesel unit that churns out 174 horsepower and 420-450 Nm of torque. The other option is a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated V6 petrol engine that produces 234 bhp of power and 376 Nm of torque.
