Tesla Sets A New World Record By Towing A Boeing 787
Tesla has always amazed us with its incredible technological innovations that led to the birth of a number Tesla electric vehicles. However, the latest gig by the American company has left us in awe. Tesla used its latest Model X to tow a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
No matter how bizarre it may sound, but Tesla has done it. It successfully pulled a 130-ton Boeing 787 with its all-electric SUV, the Model X P100D. The aircraft belonged to Qantas airlines. This act was completed on a remote taxiway at Melbourne Airport. The Model X managed to pull the Dreamliner for 300 meters. This is a new Guinness World Record for the heaviest tow by an electric production passenger vehicle
Tesla Model X has got dual electric motors. Together they generate a tremendous 773 bhp of power and an incredible 967 Nm of torque. These figures are mind-boggling, but still towing an aircraft weighing 130 tons, which is well above the tow rating (2.5 tons) of the vehicle, is a job well done.
This is not the first time when Qantas and Tesla have performed such a stunt. In 2016, Qantas Boeing 737-800 aircraft and a Tesla Model S P90D raced on an airport runway. The Tesla managed to touch 250 kph whereas the aircraft achieved 257 kph before getting airborne.
