BMW's top offering in the SUV segment has been recently spotted with heavy camouflage. Reports suggest that the new X6 is still in its testing phase. However, Automedia has managed to grab a few spy shots of the SUV which is awaiting in debut in 2019.
It has not been long that the German automaker launched the new X5 and similar to it, reports suggest that the upcoming Mk2X6 will be based on the new CLAR platform- which currently also underpins the 5-series and 7- series. The SUV is expected to be built at the company's US plant in Spartanburg alongside the X5.
Apart from its high-seated aggressive cosmetics, the SUV is mechanically similar to its sibling X5, with the European range beginning with the xDrive30d and rising to the quad-turbo M50d. However, for 2019 we can also expect an xDrive45e plug-in hybrid that is offered along with the straight-six turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor.
Apart from the normal X6, spy shots of the SUV's high-performance variant have also surfaced. This is most certainly expected to be the X6 M, which will fall in line with other high-performance offerings in the SUV segment alongside the X3 M, X4 M, and X5 M. The high-performance model is expected to sport a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that delivers 600bhp of power and 750Nm of torque.
The X6 will also retain the interiors of the X5 which sports high-tech features including a digital instrument cluster, touchscreen-based infotainment, and multiple electronic driver aids.
As a trademark of the M-division, the SUV also gets an aggressive bumper and blue brake callipers. There has been no official word from the company but the SUV could be looking at an early 2019 launch. Meanwhile, the M-variant of the SUV can also be exected around the same time.
