SPIED! 2019 Focus ST Could Carry Same EcoBoost Engine As The Mustang

Ford seems to be ready with its next ST badge in the line-up with the all-new Focus. Latest spy shots of the 2019-launch, bearing the 16-year-old traditional ST badge, tells almost everything about its latest design cues.

The fourth-generation Focus could be Ford’s last hand on internal combustion engines as reports now suggest that the 2020 Focus RS will sport a hybrid powertrain. While Ford has been tight-lipped about Focus’ future we can say that the upcoming ST could carry the same 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is seen in the Mustang as well as the Outgoing Focus RS.

The last iteration of Focus which sported the 2.3-litre unit delivered close to 345bhp of power in the standard Mk3 Focus RS but saw a 30bhp jump in the Focus RS Heritage Edition. However, output figures on the upcoming ST could be identical to that of the EcoBoost engine that is seen on the four-cylinder Mustang, packing 286bhp under the bonnet.

Petrol variants of the standard Focus underpin the mk4 platform and use a turbocharged three-cylinder EcoBoost unit with either 1.0-litre of 1.5-litre capacity. However, Ford still produces a 2.0-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine exclusively for the US and produces 242bhp of power.

An unobscured glance at the test mule that was spied, lets us believe that the upcoming Focus might be sportier than other ST badges of the same car. It will utilise the same body kit, with the design being peculiar with the use of a new honeycomb lower grille. The car drives on a set of Y-spoke alloy wheels with dual exhaust at the rear.

Potential buyers of the new Focus can expect a competitive pricing from Ford. The company has reportedly dropped the price of the Focus by nearly a couple thousand pounds across the board with the mk4 based car. This leaves us puzzled if the company will follow the same pricing.
