Skoda has circled December 6 for the launch of its upcoming hatchback Scala with a teaser sketch of what the car’s interior will look like.

The sketch teased by Toyota takes heavy inspiration from what we saw in the Vision RS concept revealed a month ago at the Paris Motor Show. We learn that items such as the steering wheel will be toned down for the production model. However, the concept’s wide, sweeping dash has been retained along with the central air vents that are set below a central infotainment system.

Skoda has added a new dashboard material that will be used in the upcoming models. The new infotainment system on the car sports a 9.2-inch touchscreen display along with a 10.2-inch digital driver’s display that replaces the old traditional clocks. Skoda claims that the latter calls for a five-type customization.

The infotainment system also features smartphone connectivity that will allow users to perform over the air updates of the infotainment and navigation software.

Scala’s interior dimensions are among the biggest in the class. This is due to the newly approved longer version of the MQB A0 platform from Volkswagen. Apart from the Scala, this platform will also underpin the crossover previewed by the Vision X concept displayed at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

The new platform consists of a wider wheelbase of 2649mm, 29mm longer than the Volkswagen Golf. Bernhard Maier, chairman of the board of Skoda said: “With the new Skoda Scala we are proposing a new chapter in the compact class of Skoda. It is a completely new development that sets standards in terms of technology, safety and design in this class. We are confident that Scala has the best chance to redefine the segment for Skoda.”

Mechanically, the Scala will have Volkswagen’s latest petrol motors, including a 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit with everything from 84bhp to 109bhp, and a 1.5-litre motor with up to 148bhp.
