Rivian Unleashes R1T With 680Km Range
Don’t we all love watching those 10-second-clips of maniac trucks pulling a wheelie or the ones which disappear into the drag-track spitting out clouds of black smoke? Well, in the same breath, what if we talk about a truck that pulls 1-100 in three seconds in its stock configuration? Being erm…all electric?
Talks of Rivian’s first all-electric truck echoed at the LA Auto Show this year after the start-up unveiled the staggering specs of the R1T with a smirk. We did not see this one coming behind the suspicious silence of Rivian. But boy this thing can move.
Beginning with what startled us, Rivian has promised a range of more than 680km from the 180kWh battery provided on the top variant of the truck. And if you thought they stopped with it, the truck can reach up to 100kph in just three seconds. This is akin to many supercars! Charging the vehicle from nought to 50 per cent takes 50 minutes on a DC fast charger. While one might doubt its tracking abilities, Rivian claims that the R1T can tow up to 5000kg of the load.
While we cannot judge if the company took a wise decision with the vertically stacked pill-shaped headlights, you can let us know what you think about it. Rivian has not left a gap to disappoint those off-pavement motorheads by attaching the truck with skid plates in the front and the rear.
The R1T comes with three large storage compartments the bed, the front trunk and then a trick tunnel pass through. The truck also comes with the level-3 autonomous system. By far, Rivian has not officially revealed the pricing on the variants but we know that the bike will come in three battery sizes including 180 kWh, 135 kWh and 105 kWh. The range on the smallest battery pack will be 370km while the mid-seated battery pack will deliver close to 482km.
