Recall: Ford Issues Notice For Expedition, Navigator

Automakers have to recall vehicles all the time due to various reasons. Instead of issuing separate recall notices for its cars, Ford is recalling four models at once.

Only one of these recalls affects a big chunk of vehicles, which consists of the 2018 Ford Expedition and its luxury sibling, the Lincoln Navigator. The problem is with a “J-channel” reinforcement brackets that are supposed to secure the second-row bench seat without which the seats may not come loose in the event of a crash. Roughly 37,800 vehicles in total (34,946 in the United States) built at the Kentucky Truck Plant between March 14 and August 18 of this year.

The second recall is much smaller, numbering 271 models of the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus (an estimated 268 of these are in the United States). The issue is with the airbag in the steering wheel whose injection-moulded plastic cover may come away during deployment and potentially injuring the driver or other occupants. Only those vehicles without adaptive steering system are affected, which are built at the Oakville Assembly Plant around October 11-19.

An even smaller recall is for the 2019 F-Series Super Duty truck, all four of which built between August 21-21 in Kentucky may be missing material around the transmission casing where the park pawl is supposed to engage. Without that material in place, the truck could roll away even in Park.

Ford reports that it is unaware of any accidents or injuries to have resulted from any four of the affected models. The total number of affected cars is 38,236. Notably, only crossovers and trucks are among the affected vehicles, and there is no passenger car involved.
