The all-new Porsche 911 GT3 has stolen the soul of petrolheads. People all over the world have loved it for its raw power and performance. The car has a 4.0-litre flat-six engine inherited from its 911 Cup race-car cousins and can do 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds.

Now, Porsche has revealed some very juicy and mind-boggling facts about its track weapon.

Hold your heart ladies and gentlemen – Porsche tested the GT3 at 300kph for 5,000 kilometres. Yes, FIVE THOUSAND KILOMETRES. This monumental exercise was done at the world-famous Nardo test track in Italy. The track is owned by Porsche and knows for its oval shape.

During this run Porsche conducted around 600 emissions tests and the car only stopped for fuel. Porsche engineers used a very complex oil supply system so that the engine could run “flawlessly.”

Porsche has also tested the GT3 in its wind tunnel in Weissach where it produced 50 per cent more downforce than its predecessor at 200 km/h. “In our ultra-modern wind tunnel, we do not just drive straight ahead, we simulate every conceivable driving situation. We make the car roll, pitch and yaw in order to simulate the physical influences on the track”, explains Porsche’s aero engineer.

That’s not all as before the GT3 went to the Nardo track, a test session was conducted on the static test rig where it spent 22,000 hours under different simulations and was “at full throttle for a very high proportion of the time.” WOW

This test shows how performance-ready the 911 GT3’s engine is. Well done Porsche!
