Peugeot has made its interest in the EV segment clear by revealing two of its new offerings in the segment. Based on the 3008 SUV and the 508 saloons, the two new plug-in hybrids are expected to go on sale by the second quarter of 2019.

The new Peugeot 508 will sport the company’s HYBRID engine while the 3008 will carry the four-wheel drive HYBRID4 engine. The powertrain in both the 508 and the 508 estate includes a PureTech four-cylinder petrol engine along with a 108bhp electric motor both concentrating the power on the front axle.

The overall power of both the hybrid 508 models add up to 222bhp and is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The company has not provided with a confirmation of the efficiency figures of the cars.

The 508 will carry an 11.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack which would provide the car with a range of 30 miles on full charge.

The 3008, on the other hand, carries a slightly more powerful all-wheel-drive powertrain with two electric motors and a total output figure of 296bhp. Peugeot claims that the new hybrid powertrain will let the 3008 see triple-digit speeds in 6.5 seconds with a maximum electric range of 30 miles.

The company has also stated that a front-wheel drive of the 3008 will also be available a few months after the onset of sales of the HYBRID4 version. All can be recharged in less than two hours using the 6.6kW wall box. Both the models get the digital i-Cockpit as standard.

The cars also carry the new e-SAVE feature which allows the driver to anticipate their movement by reserving electric autonomy. The function is accessible through the touch-screen infotainment system.

Apart from that, the car also sports a new electronically-controlled braking system. The i-Booster braking system recovers the energy during braking or deceleration when the foot is lifted. It makes use of an electric pump instead of a vacuum pump that is seen on the thermal versions.
