Porsche To Name Performance Variant Of Taycan As “Turbo”

For starters, let us put your thoughts to rest by confirming that there will be NO turbo in Taycan. Following a recent tweet by automotive journalist Alex Roy, Porsche has seemed to confirm ‘Turbo’ as its performance variant’s name.

According to the tweet, we can expect the Taycan by next year in three models: Taycan, Taycan 4s, and Taycan Turbo. Given the aforementioned names, we can’t help but speculate that the Taycan would be the base model, while the 4S to be an all-wheel-drive model with more power, and the Turbo to also boast AWD with a significant bump in the numbers.

Porsche had earlier confirmed that at least one version of the Taycan will make more than 600bhp of power and have a range upwards of 500km. We can expect that to be the Taycan Turbo. We know that the 600bhp version of the car is capable of triple-digit speeds in about 3.5 seconds and a 200kph mark in 12 seconds.

Back when Porsche revealed the EV’s initial specifications, all models were expected to come with an AWD initially, with a later possibility of rear wheel drive. However, the latest insights on the model suggest that rear-wheel-drive have already made it to the production lines in the 400bhp version while the 4S will get AWD and 500 hp. We reckon that a two-speed automatic transmission was likely to be fitted to all the models.

All models are expected to feature Porsche’s 800-volt electrical system, capable of recharging up to 80 per cent in about 15 minutes. Porsche is currently working on building out its network of 350-kilowatt, 800-volt charging stations at dealerships and select highway locations in the U.S.

The tweet also unveiled the basic pricing for the Taycan and confirmed an earlier report suggesting similar pricing as the Panamera. The tweet shows the base car in the low $90,000 range, the 4S in the high $90,000 range, and the Turbo at “over $130,000.”
