Skoda might have garnered the sole attention at the Paris motor show on Tuesday after it took the covers off the concept of a 245bhp plug-in hybrid, Vision RS.

We speculate that the Vision RS might be a close glimpse of the unnamed family car that Volkswagen had earlier hinted about. The upcoming EV is expected to replace the company ageing Rapid Spaceback. The concept is expected to hit the production line by the end of this year and will go on sale by next year.

The Vision RS might indicate Skoda’s future plans in the RS badge. Reports suggest that the Vision might also get a performance variant in the near future with.

The Vision RS is built on a cost-effective modified version of Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform, the MBQ A0 which underpins the company’s supermini-sized cars. The car takes a tint of inspiration from the Rapid Spaceback in the form of the large black glass tailgate. The rest of the design cues are derived from Skoda’s attest design playbook including triangular headlights, an illuminated front grille, sharp looking horizontal taillights and spaced Skoda lettering replacing the badge on the tailgate.

Visual identification elements of the RS line-up that the Vision Sports, features a set of 20-inch wheels, carbon-fibre front grille, side air outlet linings, front splitter, rear diffuser and rear wing along with an aggressive looking front and rear bumpers.

The interiors of the car are inspired solely from the Vision X concept and include a floating style touchscreen. However, we doubt if the carbon-fibre elements inside the cabin will make it to the production lines.
The Vision RS is powered by a plug-in hybrid petrol powertrain along with Volkswagen group’s 1.5-litre TSI four-cylinder engine with an electric motor. The petrol motor produces close to 148 bhp which is backed by the 101hp electric motor pushing the total output figure to nearly 242bhp. The engine is mated to a six-speed dual clutch transmission and supplies its juice to the rear wheel.
