It was back in 2010 when Porsche came out with its first hybrid SUV, the Cayenne S Hybrid. After four years, in 2014, it brought another revised version and called it as the Cayenne S E-Hybrid. Now again, four years later, there’s another new iteration of the hybrid SUV, the Cayenne E-Hybrid.

More performance

Porsche has learned from its mistakes over the years. And, of course, the technological developments during this period of time worked as a catalyst for the development of the hybrid SUV. Porsche has worked on the electric motor of the new model to make it 43 percent more powerful than its predecessor. This one now hides 136 horsepower.

While a team of engineers was busy extracting out more power from the electric motor, another team was brainstorming to do the same with the 3.0-litre, V6. They successfully managed to get 7 more horses. So they’ve now got 340 in total. Overall, the new Cayenne E-Hybrid has got 46 bhp more than the previous iteration.

Combine that increased power with a ground-breaking 400 Nm of torque, and put a strong and smooth 8-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission to deal with all the forces. The result is a mammoth hybrid SUV sprinting from 0 to a 100 kph in just 5 seconds. And when being floored thoroughly, it touches a max speed of 253 kph. That’s a winner for me.

New features

There’s this new (cool) feature in the new Cayenne E-Hybrid which has the authority to pick from the two power plants. The SUV will always be run by the electric motor unless and until there’s sufficient power in the battery as required by the E-mode.

Another scenario when it will utilize electric power only is when being driven like an old man. I mean there’s a pressure point located in the accelerator pedal which detects input from the driver. Whenever the driver starts driving enthusiastically and triggers the pressure point, the system automatically engages the 3.0-litre V6; both the electric and IC engine works simultaneously.

Other new features in the new Cayenne E-Hybrid include different driving modes, a heads-up display, smart digital copilot Porsche InnoDrive with adaptive cruise control and active lane guidance, massage seats, a heated windscreen, independent heating with remote operation and 22-inch light metal wheels. There’s also an app called Off-Road Precision. It has got something to do with off-roading.

No details regarding the pricing or availability as of now. We will keep you guys updated at the earliest.
