Mitsubishi is bringing a brand-new concept to the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in March. The oddly-named car hints at “next-generation technology and enhanced EV performance,” in its maker’s words.

One more Mitsubishi concept

The long-struggling Japanese brand has been unveiling a slew of new concepts and prototypes that have sadly never made it to production despite spiking reasonable interest. The Engelberg is the latest concept from Mitsubishi, and puts emphasis on plug-based drivetrain technologies. The company is playing things pretty close to the chest, but does have some tidbits for those keen on the car.

For starters, the electric SUV is named after a Swiss ski resort that has some links to the European Motorsports scene. Mitsubishi suggests the Engelberg Tourer will “bring further developments in SUV styling and practicality, along with a focus on next-generation technology and enhanced EV performance.”

What do teasers reveal of the Engelberg?

There is only so much such images show you. The Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer seems to wear a peculiar front fascia, with uniquely placed lighting elements such as triple-stacked lamps on either side of the grille, signature LED strips stretching until above the wheel arches, and Mitsubishi’s recognizable grille shape.

The Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer also seems to be equipped with a bash plate and a roof rack fitted with a light bar. This could point to the car’s off-road capability. Mitsubishi has been renowned for its off-road prowess, with even sedans like the legendary Lancer participating in hill climbs and rallies across the globe.

MITSUBISHI ALSO DROPPED A MYSTERIOUS, BRIEF NOTE ABOUT THE CONCEPT THAT READS –

  • More SUV
  • More EV
  • More Technology
  • More Style (Named after a beautiful; rugged Alpine town with a history of sporting success)

Only time will tell if the Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer concept will deliver on what its note promises. For the moment though, the SUV does look like it could make for a decent product if equipped with a sufficiently powerful electric motor. Or perhaps even two.
