Geneva International Motor Show 2019: Does The Subaru Viziv Adrenaline Concept Foreshadow The Next Crosstrek?
Subaru has been struggling a lot lately with its most exciting cars rendered obsolete due to tightening emissions norms around the world. However, the firm’s crossovers have been doing respectably well. Playing to its strength, Subaru showcased the Viziv Adrenaline concept at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show.
Promising concept, murky details
The press release surrounding Subaru’s latest Viziv (there have been two more before this) is a mishmash of marketing jargon. Hard details regarding the concept are just not present in the media release. However, we can draw some conclusions by giving the Viziv adrenaline a thorough once-over.
Subaru is also being secretive about whether the concept previews an all-new model or will debut as the next-gen Crosstrek. Instead, the company wants the audience to focus more on new style elements adorning the Viziv Adrenaline. As per the carmaker, it wears an evolution of Dynamic x Solid design language which was previewed in 2014.
Subaru Viziv Adrenaline: Design
The concept is a five-door crossover with a tall ride height. However, the doors are a bit unique. A significant chunk of the rear doors integrates with the rear wheel wells. The impression is that of a pickup truck’s door configuration, with rear half-doors. Both ends of the concept have minimal overhangs, resulting in impressive approach and departure angles.
The front wheel arches fight for space with the front fender and merge seamlessly into the headlamps. Both the headlamps and taillamps are more rakish and aggressive than what can be seen on the current crop of Subaru cars. The Viziv Adrenaline concept sits on black centre-locking wheels wrapped in Bridgestone tyres.
Its a clad, clad world
The most striking detail on the Subaru Viziv Adrenaline is the presence of bold cladding. While the rear wheels make do with thinner cladding, the front wheels are paired with extensive and funky cladding that goes on to wrap all around the car’s front end.
Subaru has also stepped away from the beaten path and chosen not to showcase the Viziv concept with a floating roof. The crossover shows off a thick D-pillar with a contrasting white roof. The rear hatch is small and high up. The positioning is to accommodate the high rear bumper that allows for a high departure angle. Ample cladding is, of course, present over here too.
There is not much more to go on about the Subaru Viziv Adrenaline concept. From the looks of it, the car is a promising product from the Japanese automaker. Time will tell if it is the future Subaru Crosstrek or an entirely new model altogether.
