Porsche’s move to dismiss diesel engines combined with a six billion euro investment towards EVs has made its motives about an electrified lineup clear.

A curtain raiser for its upcoming EV centred lineup would be the Taycan. Termed as Porsche’s first complete electric car, the Taycan has been a speculation-magnet since the company made its announcement in June.

In the most recent development, the company has confirmed some of the details that surfaced about the car. The concept of the car was first showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015.

The car which sports a similar silhouette to that of the Panamera is expected to be more compact and falling under the price range of 60,000 pounds and 70,000 pounds.

Reports suggest that the Taycan will be capable of producing over 600bhp with its 270 watt-hours lithium-ion battery pack which will be denser than any of Tesla’s current offering. Further details about the electric powertrain reveal that the car can be expected with two synchronous electric motors on each axle.

The company claims that the powertrain will make the car capable of touching the 100kph mark in 3.5 seconds and 200kph in 12 seconds. The able battery will also provide the car with a range of close to 480km on a full charge. In the same breath, the battery will utilise a 350kW CCS chargers which are compatible with its 800v system.

Reports suggest that an all-wheel drive can be expected as standard on the upcoming EV initially, with the company launching more affordable rear-wheel-drive models in the future. The company is also planning on a crossover version of the Taycan, previewed as Cross Tourismo concept that was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

An upgrade on the infotainment systems as well as other safety features on the car can be expected as over-the-air updates in the car.
