Formula E’s New Safety Car Looks Awesome
Welcome to the Mini Electric Pacesetter inspired by JCW – a car which shows that “electrification and John Cooper Works are a good fit”. This special electric Mini you see here will be the safety car for the 2021 Formula E season and it looks stunning.
It has the same battery pack as the standard Mini Electric which means 182bhp, 206lb ft of torque are available. The main difference is that the boffins at BMW Motorsport have worked their magic due to which this car is 130kg lighter than the standard car.
The Pacesetter has racing coilover suspension, race-spec control arm mounts, a wider track, and massive four-piston brakes. All this along with a full roll-cage and six-point harnesses give the Mini a “maximum go-kart feeling”.
Inside you will find no rear seats and infotainment as only the front seats remain. The interior has a steering wheel and centre console made from carbon fibre 3D printed removable pads on the seat.
The car sits on 18 inch orange wheels and has a 3D printed rear wing which has full row of lights on it. Formula E Safety Car driver Bruno Correia was very impressed with the Mini and said, “It’s very fun to drive, it feels like karting.”
The Mini electric Pacesetter will make its debut on 10 April in Rome where the Formula E season will start.
