Dubai Will Have Fully Autonomous Robotic Taxis By 2023
The Road and Transit Authority of Dubai has signed an agreement with GM’s Cruise to get Fully Autonomous Robotic Taxis by 2030. Cruise is an autonomous driving unit which pledges for an emissions-free and driverless transportation future.
Dubai aims for having 4,000 self-driving taxis in the city and convert 25% of trips in the city to self-driving transport by 2030. Also, Cruise will be Dubai’s exclusive robotaxi provider according to the agreement.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan said, “This agreement, which is the first of its kind worldwide between a government entity and a leading developer of autonomous vehicles, and autonomous vehicle technology, is a major step towards realising Dubai’s Self-Driving Transport Strategy aimed at converting 25 percent of total trips in Dubai into self-driving transport trips across different modes of transport by 2030.”
So far only San Francisco had taken this ambitious step of having Cruise as their robotaxi supplier but now Dubai has also joined the robotaxi revolution.
