BMW showcased the new editions of its successful Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) for the luxury segment. The BMW X5 and X6 models are updated for the 2024 model year and get new powertrains, new interiors and a revised exterior.

Exterior updates on the 2024 BMW X5 and X6

Both the new BMW X5 and X6 now get slimmer matrix LED headlights along with arrow-shaped DRLs that also work as turn signal indicators. BMW Kidney Iconic glow which illuminates the front grille is now optional for the six-cylinder versions of the X5 and X6 models.

The X5’s vertical air curtains, a lower air intake, and Pearl-effect Chrome triangular apertures in its outer areas and the standard inclusion of Exterior Line Satin Aluminium trim and roof rails in Satin Aluminium also contribute to its overall looks. The sculptural fibre-optic rear lights and brake lights now come with eye catchy contouring. The L shape of the rear lights is also passed on to this model from the other BMW models and is placed horizontally, creating a consistently illuminated X motif.

M-Sport packages

The X6 now features the M-Sport package as standard that includes an octagonal front-end signature below the kidney grille, and a 3D sculpting of the front apron. M-specific side skirts, M High-gloss Shadowline trim, the new trapezoidal exhaust tailpipes and an additional Black high-gloss rear spoiler on the X6 M60i are also part of the M-Sport package

The BMW X5 M60i xDrive also gets an optional M-package which includes double bars and an M logo for the BMW kidney grille, M exterior mirror caps in Black high-gloss and exhaust system tailpipe trim in the hallmark M quad-pipe style.

All BMW X5 and BMW X6 M60i xDrive variants are now available with the M Sport package Pro.

Colour Schemes

The new M Marina Bay Blue metallic and M Isle of Man Green metallic body paint finishes are available exclusively for top-of-the-line models. Colour options for all models include Blue Ridge Mountain metallic, Brooklyn Grey metallic, Skyscraper Grey metallic, Frozen Pure Grey metallic and around 40 BMW Individual special paint finishes.

New Interior updates on the 2024 BMW X5 and X6

The X5 and X6 get the latest-gen BMW iDrive 8 operating system. The new BMW curved display infotainment system features a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central display, located behind a single curved glass.

2024 X5 and X6 come with standard sport seats with Sensafin surfaces, but comfort seats for the driver and front passenger can be ordered. BMW Individual Merino extended leather upholstery, BMW Individual full Merino leather upholstery, active seat ventilation and a massage function are also available as an option.

X5 and X6 get new Engines

The new BMW X5 and new BMW X6 are available with four new powertrains all of which are mated with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and get gearshift paddles on the steering wheel. The BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system comes as standard.

The 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line petrol engine powers both 40i variants and produce 375 horsepower and 520 Nm (383 lb-ft), 47hp and 70Nm more than before. The engine accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.4 seconds.

The 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line diesel engine in the BMW X5 and X6 xDrive30d variants has also been updated. The new diesel engine with the mild hybrid system produces a maximum output of 298 horsepower and a peak torque of 670 Nm (494 lb-ft) and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.1 seconds.

The BMW X5 and X6 M60i xDrive variants feature a 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine that generates 523 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque (553 lb-ft). The new V8 accelerates the cars from 0 to 100 km/h can be in 4.3 seconds.

New plug-in hybrid powertrain in BMW X5 xDrive 50e

The drive system for the plug-in hybrid X5 xDrive50e has also been updated, latest-generation six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and a new electric motor combinedly to deliver 483 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque (516 lb-ft), which is 96hp and 100Nm more than the outgoing model. The combined powertrains help the car accelerate from 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.

The high-voltage battery integrated into the underbody area has been increased by almost 25 per cent to 25.7 kWh over its predecessor and a new Combined Charging Unit doubles the maximum AC charging rate to 7.4 kW. The electric-only range of the 2024 BMW X5 xDrive50e is between 94–110 km (58 – 68 miles) in the WLTP cycle.

Suspension and Wheels

BMW’s Adaptive M Suspension is now standard on X5 M60i, X6 xDrive40i, and X6 M60i models and optional on X5 sDrive40i, X5 xDrive40i. Adaptive two-axle air suspension and the offroad package are offered as options and the top of the range models are equipped with Integral Active Steering as standard.

The X5 gets 19-inch and X6 gets 20-inch alloy wheels while the 21-inch wheels are for the range-topping variant of each model. Light-alloy wheels up to 22 inches are also available as an option.
