BMW Unveils Plug-In Hybrid Version Of The 3-Series With XtraBoost Technology

BMW seems to have locked its crosshair on the recently revealed 3-series. The latest eighth generation of the line-up that was unveiled at this year's Paris Motor Show is all set to get a plug-in hybrid version now.
Wearing the same outfit as the outgoing 330e, the new car also sports a similar powertrain. However, the new iteration will now come with more power and better electric range. Making it to the 'new equipment' list on the 330e is a new feature called XtraBoost which is similar to turbocharged engine's over-boost, with extra power being piled on.
The powertrain on the new 330e consists of a 2.0-litre turbo-4 that works alongside an electric motor integrated with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Like the standard three-series juice is supplied to the rear wheel.
Talking about numbers, peak output for the upcoming model is clocked at 252bhp and 420Nm of torque. However, with the addition of XtraBoost, there will be an additional 41bhp on the crank when the vehicle is in sports mode and with sufficient charge in the 12-kWh lithium-ion battery.
The Bavarian manufacturer claims that the car reaches triple-digit speeds in about six seconds with a top speed of 230kph. With an all-electric power supply, the car can reach up to a speed of 140kph. As of now, BMW claims the official electric-range to be close to 60km. However, final figures by EPA might tell a different story.
We expect the 2020 BMW 330e to hit the showrooms by the end of 2019. This unveiling comes a few days after the company announced the much-awaited performance version for the 3-series.
We know that the new car will feature a developed version of BMW's 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine that produced 47bhp more than the previous iteration clocking at 369bhp. Meanwhile, torque has been pulled by 50Nm to 500Nm.
