BMW Teases The 2018 i8 Roadster
BMW recently released a short teaser video emphasizing its new ‘i8’ roadster, the electrified convertible sports car and third member of the ‘i’ family. The Munich-based company will launch its ‘i8’ roadster in 2008 and it is expected to share many of the design features of the prevailing i8. This video shows the convertible’s removable roof in place as it feels what appears to be road testing in its pre-production stage.
BMW will start production of the ‘i8’ roadster in 2018, ahead of the next version of revealed with its new look in 2020. BMW CEO Kruger also confirmed last year that the i8 Roadster had been approved for production.
The BMW ‘i8’ roadster may continue to use the same 357 bhp plug-in hybrid powertrain, comprising a 1.5 liter three-cylinder engine working alongside an petrol-electric motor. From 0 to 62 mph, the current i8 runs in 4.4 seconds, but with the updated powertrain the facelifted i8 is likely to be faster. Hence there is possibility of increased power and powerful battery pack.
And in its endeavour to develop electrically charged and Eco-sustainable vehicles ,BMW will also be emancipating the first battery electric Mini during 2019. Other electrified product plans include an all-electric version of the BMW X3, and the all-electric BMW iNEXT is scheduled to come out in 2021.
