A year ago we had nothing more than the Tesla Model X that dominated the segment of high-hauling electric vehicles and this year we saw the Jaguar I-pace. In the coming three years we are expected to witness at least nine monikers that would be making their way into the segment ranging from old-timers like the Mercedes-Benz and Turks such as the Rivian.

However, recent Autocar reports suggest that Audi might have something similar up its sleeve. Along with three of its electric variants that will be evenly spaced throughout the coming three years, Audi is also reportedly working on another electric crossover.

Audi Q2

Back in 2017, Audi stated its plans of bringing three EVs into the market by 2020 and nine more by 2025. Autocar speculates that the upcoming crossover is expected to be sized between the Q2 and the Q3, making it the smaller that most affordable EV in the German maker’s line-up. If the moniker takes its rightful place in the traced schedule, we can expect the iteration to be Audi‘s fourth EV in the aforementioned timeframe after the E-Tron, E-Tron Sportback and the E-Tron GT.

Audi Q2

Reports suggest that the German auto giant is working with three of its SUV platforms including a reworked MLB Evo architecture for the E-Tron SUV as well as its derivatives, J1 for the E-Tron GT — shared with the Porsche Taycan — and the coming PPE, developed with Porsche for future EVs. According to Autocar, the unnamed EV will be based on Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform that was developed for the I.D. line of cars and crossovers.

Various reports have confirmed the iteration to be a hatchback while some suggest it to be a crossover. For reference, we know that the MEB platform also underpins the I.D. Neo, which VW calls a hatchback, is about the size of a VW Golf.
