Cadillac has got all bases covered with the unveiling of its new XT6 crossover, set for a launch later this year. The new three-row crossover slots in between smaller XT5 and its range range-topping stablemate, Cadillac Escalade.
It has so happened until now that while all its rivals were busy populating their model range with crossovers and SUVs of all shapes and sizes, Cadillac seemed content with offering the gigantic Escalade and its other product, the XT5 crossover.
Things changed this year with the company launching its latest compact crossover XT4 with a promise of more to follow. The 2020 Cadillac XT6 is the first of a slew of SUVs, both conventional and electric, that the American luxury carmaker has in the offing.

Cadillac has gone in all guns blazing with the new XT6. For starters, the crossover offers three-row seating with more legroom (750mm) and headroom (945mm) than the Acura MDX and Audi Q7, and more headroom than the Infiniti QX60. Additionally, all trims of the 2020 Cadillac XT6 get power-folding third-row seats.
On the other hand, despite Cadillac having high hopes from its newest product, the XT6 still misses out on a critical piece of technology: Super.Cruise. Just like the absence of the XT6 was a gaping hole in the carmaker's lineup, Super.Cruise is a big miss in an otherwise impressively tech-laden car. You get standard forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, surround-view camera, night vision, available head-up display- it's a long list.
The Cadillac XT6 can also keep the more technology inclined of us happy with its near-field pairing for compatible smartphones. No need to tap through your phone for infotainment access, just tap your device to an icon on the dash and you are hooked to the car with Bluetooth connectivity. Users of compatible smartphones can also enjoy fast charging thanks to the 15-watt charge pad.
A Bose Performance Series audio system plays your favourite music through 14 speakers, while an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Cadillac says the new XT6 will feature a 3.6-litre V6 with a 310hp output. A nine-speed automatic transmission will power an available twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system. Not bad, Cadillac. Bonus brownie points for the five-link independent rear suspension, front MacPherson struts, or the adaptive dampers on all four corners. You can also choose between standard 20-inch wheels or bigger 21-inch units if you go for the Cadillac XT6 Sport trim.
The Sport trim also nets you a black grille and window mouldings, tweaked front and rear fascia, clear-lens taillamps, and unique exhaust housings. Choose the Premium Luxury trim, and you get more brightwork peppered over the car plus red-lens taillamps. Regardless of trims, LED projector headlamps are standard with an available “performance” LED option.
Pricing details for the all-new 2020 Cadillac XT6 are not out yet, but we do know the crossover will go on sale later this year.
