On the day Toyota released the first teaser photo of the new Supra, specs of the car surfaced online, giving us a good look at how the car is going to be positioned in the market.

According to Japan’s Best Car magazine, Toyota’s new sports car will be powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six engine jointly developed with BMW. Toyota previewed the car in the form of the FT-1 concept The mill is good for 450 Nm torque, with an overboost gain of 50 Nm. The magazine further reports an eight-speed automatic transmission, and some tight dimensions of the Supra. Apparently, the new Supra will be 137 mm shorter lengthwise, 43 mm wider and 25 mm taller than the old MkIV car it replaces. It tips the scales at 1490 kg, which is 80 kilos lighter than the previous generation, which is now the stuff of legend. There is no word yet on whether there will be any manual tranny on offer, at least as an option.

The new Toyota Supra wears fat rubber to put down all that power to the ground. Up front is a pair of 225/50 R17 tyres, while there are 255/45 R17 units out back. While 17-inch wheels do sound a little too small by modern performance car standards, Toyota has also talked about four variants of the new Supra. Perhaps souped-up variants of the new Toyota sports car will benefit from more powerful engines, bigger wheels, and aero? Only time will tell.

Look for the resurrected Toyota Supra to finally show its face Mar. 6 at the Geneva Motor Show.Toyota is putting down the new Supra against the likes of Audi TT-RS and BMW Z4, and once the four variants are released, the rivalry will be fierce. After all, a legend is making a comeback, eh?
