2021 Hyundai Ioniq EV Review | Here’s My Experience With An Electric Car

The first generation of the Hyundai Ioniq EV was first launched in 2016. This is the second generation which has a lot of improvements mainly being the bigger battery pack on offer.

On the Hyundai Ioniq EV 2021, you will find a single permanent magnet type electric motor mounted in the front paired with a single-speed reduction gear. It manages to produce 88 kW (120 HP) and 295 Nm of torque. The 2021 Ioniq EV gets a bigger battery pack of 38.3 kWh capacity that gives you a claimed range of 273 km.

While the most important thing about owning an electric car does come down to charging abilities. With the Hyundai Ioniq, you get a standard 2 kW charger which is a type 2 pin on the charging side and a 3-pin socket on the wall side. You can charge from zero to full capacity using the 2 kW in around 20 hours. If you find a 7 kW charger, you can charge it in around 6 hours. The charging times with a capacity of 22 kW and 50 kW are 2 hours and 54 mins respectively.

On the technology front, you get LED headlights and sliding hatches in the front grille that help to cool the hardware underneath the bonnet while also making the Ioniq aerodynamically efficient.

You are greeted with a rather plain interior experience mainly consisting of composites made out of sustainable materials like sugarcane and volcanic rock. A 10.5-inch infotainment system, 7-inch drivers display and wireless charging complete the interiors.

The Ioniq competes directly with the newly launched Volkswagen ID.3 and the Nissan Leaf. The latest electric car to come out from their lineup is the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The Hyundai Ioniq 2021 is a good first electric car to experience but it does not shake things up in the segment mainly due to its dull looks and the way it drives.
