The 2018 Jeep Wrangler is set to be officially unveiled at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show on 29th Nov. But its official images have already been released. Jeep made clear with the pictures that the 2018 Wrangler will be available in both 2-door and 4-door variants.
Here's what Jeep stated in its official press release, “The all-new Wrangler's unique design includes an instantly recognizable keystone-shaped grille, iconic round headlamps and square tail lamps, improved aerodynamics, a convenient fold-down windshield for off-road purists, even more, open-air freedom, and dozens of different door, top and windshield combinations.”
The new Wrangler looks similar to the previous generation model. Perhaps, Jeep didn't want to change the new model because the Wrangler is an icon in itself. However, a few changes have been made to spot the difference between the old and the new models. For example, the front grille has been made beefier and the turn indicators have been moved to the front end of the fenders.
We can figure out from the official pictures that the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be available in both hard and soft top variants. This will allow customers to pick as per their needs and taste. The front windshield of the new Wrangler would be easily foldable and it wouldn't take the A-pillar with it this time, making the entire process that much quicker and easier. It is also expected that the doors on the new Wrangler can be removed to get that much more attitude, accessibility and off-road capability.
According to a few reports, the new 2018 Wrangler will be much lighter than its outgoing version. This has been made possible by utilising a lot more aluminium in its body while carrying the same old body-on-frame construction. Less weight is always a boon because not only it enhances the handling of a vehicle but also increases the performance and fuel efficiency.
Talking about performance, the new Wrangler is expected to be available with multiple engine options. However, initially at the launch, it would be powered by a 3.6 litre V6 available in manual and automatic transmission. Reports also suggest that a new four-cylinder engine could also make its way into the new Wrangler. This new engine is named as the 'Hurricane' and is a 2.0 litre unit with twin-turbos and would produce around 300bhp of power. This will get more clear after 29th Nov 2017.
Rumours tell that the dealer ordering of the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler has begun and dealers now can start placing orders with the company to let it know how many of the new Wranglers they'd want in the first shipment. The production of the new Jeep will commence sometime later this year, perhaps in Dec. It is also being said that Jeep has also in mind a pickup variant of the Wrangler but that is not going to become a reality anytime soon, not until late 2019.
