It’s the human nature to always look for more, to desire, to dream, to do the undoable, to achieve the impossible. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, perseverance, consistency, patience and hard work makes it happen. A bunch of such humans have helped Koenigsegg to shut everyone’s mouth (Bugatti and Hennessey’s) as the Agera RS is now officially the fastest production car ever made till date, period.
You see, Koenigsegg is always pushing the limits. It wasn’t long ago when the Swedish company broke Bugatti Chiron’s 0-400-0 kph world record by around 5 seconds. It was just not enough for them. These guys still had to prove what they can do and how good a supercar is the Agera RS. So they set out once again.

Koenigsegg put its factory test driver Niklas Lilja in the Agera RS, it is the same car which was used to break the Chiron’s 0-400-0 kph record, and successfully recorded a two-way average speed of 444.6 km/h on an 11-mile section of closed public highway between Las Vegas and Pahrump to claim the highest speed ever recorded by a production car.
Apparently, the customer who owns the Agera RS asked his son-in-law, who works in the film industry, for his help. He then pulled some strings at Nevada’s local authorities and they shut down a hefty, straight chunk of Highway 160 for the team to attempt the record run. The authorities gave them permission to close the road for two days but, surprisingly, Koenigsegg didn’t need two days. It just needed a few hours and three runs to set the record.
Niklas clocked a speed of 457.93 kph in one direction and 436.43 kph in the other direction which was uphill and had a strong headwind. In 2010, Bugatti Veyron Super Sport did 434.29 kph on the Ehra-Lessien test track. And in 2014 Hennessey Venom GT achieved 435.31 kph in its one-way run at the Kennedy Space Center. It was the GT which owned the record of the fastest production car, but not anymore. All the figures which the Agera RS achieved were recorded and verified by Racelogic. These are the same guys which were present at John Hennessey’s run as well as countless Nurburgring lap times.
Koenigsegg has really given Bugatti and Hennessey something to worry about. This act would be enough to keep the engineers at these firms awake late at many nights to find a way to beat the Agera RS. While they will work on this, Koenigsegg will work on something else to show who’s the boss.
